I'm trying to create a "sideblog" so I can list books I'm reading and movies I've liked. Still working on that.
In the meantime, some fairly recent movies I enjoyed: I [heart] Huckabees (Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin are awesome in this), Garden State (an odd romantic comedy with some classic sight gags, broaches the subject of overmedicated children and is a wee bit like Harold and Maude), Saved! (a teen movie about being Christian and confused - hits home for me. Funny and thoughtful. Similar to Election). Haven't seen much else lately. We went to Melinda, Melinda (of course, we're Woody fanatics) and it was muh-huh-uuuch better than his last 2-3 movies. Not great, but worth a watch. Will Farrell plays the Woody role, like Ken Branaugh did in Celebrity. He still just comes across as Will Farrel, though. I dunno what everyone sees in that guy. Movies I'm anxiously awaiting: The Ballad of Jack and Rose, The Woods (research), and Primer (already on DVD, might pick it up tomorrow if Saturday night is as generic as my Friday night).
Books I'm Reading: Body Bazaar (organ theft), Catholic stuff including Angels and Demons, Huxley's The Devils of Loudun (research), and some books on the Rosenbergs. Oh, that's a movie I forgot! Heir to an Execution is an HBO documentary made by the Rosenbergs' granddaughter, Ivy Meeropol. I wanted to learn more after watching it, because all I really know about the Rosenbergs is that their two boys were adopted by the guy who wrote "Strange Fruit." I don't know if they were really spies or not. Only one man interviewed in the documentary, an old friend of Julius R., stated point-blank that Julius was selling government secrets. No one else knows what to think, many relatives included. It's a mystery, and I can't walk away from a good mystery...
