I was just watching Tom Cruise's interview on Access Hollywood. Wow, is he a big a**hole. He said Brooke Shields was "irresponsible" for "promoting" the drugs that helped her recover from severe postpartum depression, and asked "Is she really happy?...Listen, look at her career..." Dude, look at your career! I haven't seen a good Tom Cruise movie since, since...um....since... (alright, Minority Report was decent, but we have Spielberg and Philip Dick and that scary German actor to thank for that).
Like other dedicated Scientologists, Cruise denounces all forms of psychiatry and all psychiatric meds ("They're poison."), and even takes it upon himself to wean people off of their meds and put them on Scientology-friendly diets instead. I agree that North Americans, particularly children, are being overmedicated and that many psych meds have damaging side effects of which the general public isn't aware, but we can't whole-heartedly deny that many lives have been saved by medications. In Brooke Shields's case, she took meds only for a short period of time, and her treatment also included exercise and diet changes.
What did Cruise say when asked if Scientologists have to pay as they go (an established fact, as nothing in the Church is free)? "Those are LIES." After getting agressive, he'd bark out this horrifying imitation laughter to make himself seem like a nice guy again. FREAK-Y.
BTW: I support freedom of religion 100%. Scientology isn't for me - I think L. Ron Hubbard was a deranged fraud - but if it works for you and you're willing to shell out the cash, go for it. Tom Cruises's only good point during his entire interview came when he said he doesn't live his life by other people's standards.
