Well, I've gotten into enough trouble lately with Amway reps and snotty neo-cons, so I'll stick to writing about myself with this post. Unfortunately, I'm not as interesting as pyramid scams or the deranged Mr. Robertson.
Theatre season is up and running, so I'll be working on the programs for Thompson Highway's play The Rez Sisters, about a group of women who embark on a journey to the World's Biggest Bingo. Once the program is complete, I have to insert bingo cards in each program so the audience can play along with them by poking thumb-holes through the numbers. I'm starting to see a trend here: In last season's Les Belles Seours, the all-female cast chanted a tribute to bingo in a weird, dream-like scene. They looked like they were having orgasms while talking about bingo, I kid you not. And now a play centred around bingo....? Do playwrights think that's all women do in Canada?!
I, for one, have never set foot in a bingo hall, even though I lived next door to one in Ontario. And I don't think I ever will. Legal gambling and lung cancer aren't my things.
A somewhat busy week ahead. Tomorrow, coffee with our friend Dr. Gibson who recently retired to live 6 months of the year in Arizona. Dental check-up Tuesday, new dentist (right below our building in a snazzy office). Sept. 2, appointment with the sleep dr. at the university to find out if I have "restless legs" or not. Sept. 4, our friend and former landlady Marlene is coming over for dinner - the first dinner guest in our new place! And I'll be distributing resumes throughout the week. There are a lot of little cafes and coffeeshops hiring in the downtown core right now.
Richard wants to catch a matinee of The Brothers Grimm. Me too. I like Terry Gilliam and I love those sick Brothers Grimm! I was the robber bridegroom's bride in a pantomime show based on Grimm tales when I was 18. Cannibals, talking birds, ogres - fun stuff!
Lessee, what else? I started watching Saturday Night Live again, about a month ago. I think it's in a really good cycle right now, with Tina Fey leading the pack. I haven't liked it since "Superstar" days. To be honest, Will Ferrell annoys the hell out of me just about all the time.
The leaves are beginning to drop, which is A-OK with me, fall being my favourite season. I love being able to wear sweaters without having to put on a bulky jacket, mitts, scarf, face-warmer, hat, wool socks, boots, etc. Just to go to the end of the block for a paper. I only wish autumn would last longer!
I'm reading Mr. Strangelove: A Life of Peter Sellers and an Aleister Crowley bio.
Richard is napping and the hamsters are running their laps, so I think I'll go have a cup of tea and watch "Family Guy".

Your story reminds me of my grandparent's. They were VERY English, loved bingo, and looked remarkably like Andy Capp and Flo. At the time, bingo wasn't legal in Michigan, so every Friday night they would drive from Pontiac to Windsor.
My dad always insisted that my grandparents bingo excursions were the reason the state of Michigan widened Telegraph Rd. to 4 lanes. My Grandpa Clarke was a notoriously slow driver, and if you sat in the parking lot at the Miracle Mile shopping center and watched up the road about 11:30 on Friday night, you would invariably see a lone car followed by a string of headlights as far as you could see. My parents and my aunt and uncle used to do that on Friday nights, just for the kick of watching i!t
LOL! That sounds like the way SME's Dad drives.
That is hilarious!
