A while back, when I did Laura's "Lucky Sevens" thing, I listed "figure out the lyrics to every song I don't understand" as one thing I want to do before I die. So I guess I'd better get started on that, 'cause who knows how long it might take?
I'll start with the songs that have been vexing me pretty much my whole life. First up is "Elderberry Wine". It took me roughly 22 years to figure out that this is not a song about a guy named Wayne. But what, o what, is Elton singing about that trunk in the corner?!
There's a trunk in the corner I keep all my letters, my bills, and BLUPBLUPBLUP...
(I'm going to use "BLUPBLUPBLUP" to designate all lyrics that make no freakin' sense at all.)
Also, I swear that Sir Elton is saying
I can't help thinking about the times
You were a wild f*** of mine
And what is the conclusion to
How can I ever get it together without a BLUPBLUPBLUP...???
I understand the "drunk all the time" part, though. Maybe that explains why the rest of the song makes no sense.

Was "Mimi On The Beach" on your list?
No, I actually get that one... Frightening, isn't it?!
You do? Please explain...
"That's a surfboard not a yacht..."
Elderberry Wine makes PERFECT sense. I'll type out the lyrics for you when I get time.
One of your mystery lines is: "When you were a wife of mine"
"Wife of mine"? I don't think so.
RE: Surfboard, not a yacht.
I suspect Mimi is a rich girl accustomed to country clubs and such, and she's slumming on the public beach with a boyfriend when a lesbian notices her, falls for her, and decides to write a weird overwrought song about her.
Just my interpretation.
TRUST me!!
