Karla Homolka and/or her lawyers must be quite charming in court, because this woman got away with murder and more. She violated terms of her plea agreement yet spent a paltry amount of time in prison (where she was able to sunbathe and party like a tourist). She violated the terms of her parole yet wasn't arrested. And now a judge has rescinded the measly few conditions of release that were imposed upon her (the ones she has already broken). I don't understand where this guy's head is at; in the universe I inhabit, assisting in the abduction and torture of kids makes you a permanent threat to society, and you deserve the longest and harshest sentence the law will allow. If you are paroled, you need to be held to the strictest conditions possible for the longest amount of time the law will allow.
Without any restrictions, Karla is free to associate with criminals and children, to contact her ex and the families of their victims, and to move around without notifying anyone. This is how you treat a paroled car thief, not a multiple murderer's accomplice.

Your legal system is as screwed up as ours is!

I second what Mom said.

I totally agree with you, SME.

Karla is one nasty piece of work and should never have been alowed to plea bargain in the first place.

She and Kelly Ellard have got it way too good. We do have an effed up justice system up here.

I'm afraid you're all right. Totally screwed up. It's funny you mention Kelly Ellard, WC, because I just started reading "Under the Bridge". I don't know much about the Virk thing and I'm playing catch-up.

Oh, I just did a review of this book on my blog! Let me know what you think of the book when you're done. I'd be interested in what you have to say about how it was written. I thought it was great, myself, though I do acknowledge she took certain liberties...
