Since I haven't posted much these past two weeks, this'll be a weird mishmash of everything...
What I'm watching: Haven't seen any movies lately, and TV is primarily re-runs of shows I didn't like the first time 'round, so I've been watching nerdy stuff online. Paranoia Agent is an anime series dealing with issues like sensationalism, paranoia, and urban legend through a series of attacks by a bat-wielding kid on Rollerblades. Fine animation, horrendous dubbing. Then there's Foamy, a cute but sometimes nasty string of Flash animations about a very hyper and very angry squirrel, his hyper friends, and his Goth-Wiccan owner, Germaine. Weirdly addictive. Then there are the trippy and truly awful Flash animations of this demented Brit, David Firth. Please don't watch them. They're disgusting, they're bizarre, they don't make any kind of sense. I like them.
I'm becoming such a nerd!!
What I'm reading: Alien-abduction stuff (John Mack, Jacques Vallee) and the memoirs of a Synanon member. Synanon was a drug rehab program that flourished in California during the '70s and '80s before devolving into a strange cult. It inspired the creepy "New Path" rehab program in Philip K. Dick's A Scanner Darkly, which reminds me I'd like to see the movie even if it does have Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves in it.
What I'm eating: I normally wouldn't post about what I'm eating (how boring!), but since there's some curiosity about this because of the transition to veganism, I'll just say that I'm certainly not starving. Today I went to the Asian market for soy stuff, and the dinner menu for the week is pretty international and eclectic. Miso and tabouli (a strange combination, but it works for me), lentil-spinich stirfry, chickpea-veggie curry, wild rice soup made with tofu, soy lasagna, and tonight...chili dogs! (soydogs and veggie chili). Dessert is frozen banana soy or an apple. For breakfast I typically have some Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness juice and a peanut-butter sandwich, or soygurt with blueberries and flaxseed, or cereal with soy milk. Lunch is usually salad with sunflower seeds, or some leftovers, and fruit. All in all, my diet really hasn't changed dramatically aside from the fish.
Pet Peeve of the Week: The neighbors' yapping dog. Actually I don't think it's a dog, I think it's a brain-damaged fruit bat that has somehow learned how to bark. I'm tempted to slip beef jerky under the door just to shut it the @$&* up.
Aside from this, just the usual: Walking, hangin' downtown, writing, frantically trying to rescue the hamsters when they decide to do some couch spelunking, looking forward to having Demi & perhaps Aaron here in a couple of weeks, etc. We're actually going to spring for a new sleeper-sofa, to accomodate Paul and Juliet while they're visiting from Taiwan next month. We have the world's oldest and dorkiest loveseat in all of Western Canada, perhaps the northern hemisphere, and Richard has really dragged his feet about replacing it because he's saving his nickels for a trip to Taiwan...

You must post photos of the sofa! Dorkiest, eh? RE: breakfast- ahve you tried some great toast with almond butter and slicing a banana on top? Works for me- almond butter is so good and good for you- high in fibre, essentail fatty acids and higher in protein than pb. I also love Nature's Path Optimum Power cereal, again really high in protein and super crunchy and tasty!
I'll have to try that, sounds yummy! I like the Nature's Path Flax Plus raisin brain, but haven't tried the other yet.
I'm sorry sweetie, but you come from a long line of nerds. It's genetic...other than your brother, who proudly proclaims himself a geek.
My fate, I guess. But I never thought I would watch anime. ;S
A Scanner Darkly was pretty good. I found myself getting bored though - mostly because the animation started to give me a headache and because I couldn't understand half the things Robert Downey Jr. said. But it's definitely interesting.
You're certainly going to be in better shape with that diet (I have no idea what shape you're in but there's always room to improve - especially from my perspective) ;)
I like Waking Life a lot, so I can probably handle the animation (what gives me a headache are films that are all yellowy with a lot of handheld camera work, like Traffic and The Constant Gardener).
As for the diet, there's loads of room for improvement in my opinion! :D
