Discoveries and Insights of the Week

It's been a slow week, mentally speaking, but this is what's goin' on in my head. ;D
  • The kids will be here next week!!
  • The Boondocks is the best show on television.
  • Today, I bought the most expensive necklace I've ever bought. It cost $20.
  • All the movies I've enjoyed recently, including Lady in the Water and The Night Listener, rate extremely low on Rotten Tomatoes. Movies about talking cars and talking cows rated higher, though Garfield 2 rated lower. This either means I'm slipping, or professional film critics suck and must be eliminated. You decide.
  • You know the volcano in the old Dianetics commercial? I always wondered what it was supposed to symbolize. I found out it had something to do with an alien overlord called Xenu who came to Earth 75 million years ago and tossed billions of humans into a volcano, or something. Anyway...

The film critics suck!

I agree. It confuses me that the same critics who liked An Inconvenient Truth also liked the cartoon about talking cars...
And I don't care what ANYBODY says, Lady in the Water rocked!

yup, WC nailed it!

I go by what I like, strange as those tastes may be....
I like a lot of mainstream stuff, but I spent too many years in small artsy cinema places that I can't help but enjoy a hell of a lot of those wierd movies nobody ever sees...

I must admit, though, that sometimes I will listen to the critics. It depends on the critic. Ebert & Roper (or whoever it is now) I wouldn't listen to, but the CBC has some good critics who write good reviews. In the end, though, I listen to word of mouth and my own gut. But in all honesty, it's far too expensive to actually go to a theatre nowadays; a movie has to be really spectacular for me to want to see it in the theatre. I typically wait for things to come out on video now, but my brother also downloads lots of stuff so I can see stuff sooner if I want to.

SME, you're just mad because Dad always wins at Silver Screen. ;)

WC, we do the same thing. If there's spectacular cinematography in a movie I KNOW we'll like, we'll go to a theater. Otherwise we wait for it to come out on video.

You're not kidding! I was going to mention how much that "Fash' On" Old Navy commercials were annoying me before I realized that.

Mom - I've given up any hope of EVER beating Dad at the Silver Screen edition. I knew there was no hope for me when he got "Interns Do It For Free".

WC - I try to stick to movies that I know will look good on the big screen, too, but I'm also a lover of matinees, cheap nights, and the dollar theatre.
The CBC does have some great movie & book reviews.
