As a non-parent, I make it a policy never to comment on parenting techniques or styles. I don't say "Parents should do this, shouldn't do that,", etc., even if some chick is beating her kids half to death with her sandal in the aisle of Wal-Mart (which does, indeed, happen about every third time I go to get hamster food, BTW). I just accept that some people take well to parenting (like my own parents) and find a style that is both successful and socially acceptable , and others, well... don't.
But I'm going to give some advice now to parents of grown children, children they've already (hopefully) raised.
Wait for it.
Kick your sons the hell out of the house before they're 20.
Kimveer Gill is the result if you don't do this one simple thing.
He was 25 years old, but reading his online musings you would guess that he was 18, tops. He had the life and mind of a child. A really disturbed, really lonely, child.

Agree 100%, though it's more complicated than this. I think there had to be parenting issues way, way back in his childhood for him to have turned out the way he did. His staying at home might hav been cultural, too.
I thought of the cultural thing...also maybe his parents knew he wasn't mature enough to be out on his own? At any rate, it's not just this dude, it's a global trend of men living at home into their 30s and 40s and this becoming more acceptable. But it doesn't do them any favors. In this guy's case, it just gave him too much time and space to nurture his grudges and obsessions. (tho I agree, he must've have a LOT of earlier issues, and the problem of random violence like this is very complex. Can't be blamed entirely on any one cause.)
Aw shucks, *blushing* thanks!
Um...it IS Ok for daughters to live at home 'til they're 22 though..right? heehee
I do think it's OK for girls to live at home slightly longer than boys. A. They make less money. B. They're somewhat less likely to be ensnared by the Internet and gun shows. C. Guys need to be on their own to have any sense of manliness. Hard to be manly when mum's making grilled cheese sandwiches for you every day.
Tell THAT to your cousin!
