Condo Boards and Stranded Scientists

My first condo Annual General Meeting tonight. I didn't sleep much last night so I was already frazzled and nervous walking into this meeting, which was held in the far-too-posh hotel across the street (not the Fairfield one, but still too posh). The first thing I read is a letter from the treasurer. Turns out I know her; I took a stage management workshop from her a few years ago. This is an excerpt:

"Why am I writing? Well, simply to tell you my tales of woe, my tales of misunderstanding, my embarrassing naivety...your treasurer has also been living through the same asurprises, shocks, frustrations, and disappoinments that some of you have been experiencing."

She goes on to imply that this is the worst investment she and her husband have ever made, or at least the most problematic one. She wanted to take just about everybody to court, but management talked her out of it. Her letter flatly stated the reserve fund is at $0 even though we just paid into it via a "special assessment". Naturally, I FREAKED. But it turned out she was full of shit. Yes, there is a reserve fund. No, I don't know why she wrote this nice little panic letter. If I didn't already know she has excellent organizational skills, I would never have voted for her. That was a lousy thing for her to do. She wrote it before the assessment was done and decided to distribute it after everybody paid up: Dumb idea.

Richard's New Age friend from the top floor was nominated to the board. She's a nice enough woman, but I'm a little nervous about having a person who believes in frickin' Atlantis looking after things... ;D

Anyway, I'm all caught up on Lost for the season premiere tomorrow night! Let me tell you, just when you think the show can't get any weirder, any more baffling... it does. I have a lot of theories about what could be going on with the psychological experiments and the "coincidences", but it seems like every theory that's been proposed so far has been proven wrong sooner or later. The mystery continues! It's a lot of fun. My current theory is that DHARMA placed one set of researchers on the island and just left them there, in the hopes that on an island with lots of scary phenomena and a long history of shipwrecks and plane crashes, people would become more peaceful, cooperative, and altruistic, learning to live and work together in harmony for the good of all, integrating shipwreck and plane-crash survivors into their safe, utopian world with minimal conflict. (HA!) The colony would refine itself and evolve over time, changing values of the Valenzetti Equation (a string of numbers that supposedly predicts the end of the world), hence diverting disaster. A contrasting theory is that the Others are "first generation" DHARMA workers who haven't been around long, and their task (from "Him"?) is to create an anti Utopian society by killing off all the good folks with a virus disguised as a vaccine. Don't know what the point of that would be, though. Or, maybe they're selecting people with paranormal abilities in order to create a super-race that can save the planet. (This is unlikely, since they let Walt - the most supernaturally endowed person on the island - go.) Once they've done that, they'll be allowed to leave.

I've also been reading the Series of Unfortunate Events books, since the 13th and final one is coming out this month (on the 13th, of course). They're hilarious.

I'm thankful of you for getting involved. I had to work that night, I know these condo meetings can be scary stuff, I'm confident we made a good investment buying downtown and giving it time, we'll reap the benefit of our investment some day. thanks bear
