Between a head cold and a heat wave, I'm not a happy camper. ;P
To cheer myself up, a few more highlights from our holiday...
* Watching Kiki's Delivery Service and Shaun of the Dead (both excellent) with Z-Kid.
(Oops, maybe I shouldn't have told everybody that Z likes Kiki's Delivery Service. Well, too late. He can give me a noogie later, since he's tall enough to do that now.) ;D
* driving through the prairies listening to Jello Biafra with Richard (um, I'm not sure why this is so huge...Blogger's messing with my head, I think.)
* Waiting in half a dozen different lines to get to the top of the Sears Tower (and being forced to watch a 7th-and-a-half floor film on its construction), only to have Demi announce, "If I see one plane, I'm leaving!" (she loved it)
* Watching USA Breakdancers at Kingston's Buskers Rendezvous. The best part was the surprisingly limber fat guy from the audience who won the dance-off.
* Sittin' round the backyard fire at Kathy and Phil's, listening to Kathy's drum and Colin's guitar, watching the kids fry marshmallows.
* Squirming and cringing through an episode of Sex Talk with Sue in Minnesota, wondering what in the hell it could mean when a penis makes cracking sounds. "You'll have to tell your girlfriend to stop doing that." *shudder* (Thank God we missed her product review - it doesn't get much creepier than that.)
* Shadow, my grandparents' dog, attempting to sit on Hairry's head. I don't know why she does it, but she's determined. She backs up very slowly and checks her aim, like a truck in reverse; all she needs now is the "boop, boop" sound.
* Actually being recognized by Sophie when I picked her up from the boarding place. I was sure she'd think I was a bunnynapper, but she hopped right over to me immediately. Now if I can just get her to eat her greens again, after three weeks of being spoiled with garden-fresh kale...

This list sounds like a great upper instead of a downer. I am glad Sophie recognized you. I was wondering about that really.
Sex Talk With Sue is a Canadian classic! She's so great. But I have no idea how a penis can make cracking sounds...Weird.
How was HP, BTW?
I was shocked that Sophie recognized us. Bunnies are far smarter than we give them credit for, I think.
WC, not only did she talk about cracking, she told him to pack it in ice to correct the bending. Yikes. I totally respect what Sue does, but man...watching a grandmother review the latest vibrating gadgets just gives me the willies (no pun).
HP V was quite good, but I understand the book was far more detailed and complex. A lot of important stuff was left out of the film.
Sme, I am sad that you are feeling under the weather. My cats sometimes like to sit on my head and always thought that it was accidental but I realized that if I didn't get up fast enough to feed them that was when I got the butt. Shaun of the Dead is a great movie but I have never seen Kiki's Delivery Sevice. I might have to check it out this weekend. I hope you feel better soon!
Heh heh, my ex's cat used to sleep on my hair. I'd try to lift my head at night and get jerked back. I think Shadow is still trying to assert her authority...my nickname for her is Ma Barker.
Kiki's Delivery Service was adorable. Very sweet and touching. (sorry, Z, but it is!)
I've never heard about Sex Talk with Sue. I've also never heard of the "cracking sound" thing, but it doesn't sound good. :-/ Hope you get to feeling better soon!!
Wait...I thought you were reading the final HP book, and was wondering how you thought the series ended?
I'm on book 3 of 7. It'll be a while.
I was going to read straight through the series quickly, like I did with the Unfortunate Events books, but the siren call of nonfiction has lured me away again.
I've seen Jello live. He puts on quite a show.
One of my favorite spoken word artists said that Henry Rollins wishes he was Jello Biafra. I disagree because their styles are very different. I've seen them both live (spoken word). Biafra's straight politics, Rollins talks about life.
One of the most interesting things I've heard Biafra say was that if you suddenly found yourself in power, how would you run the country? What would you do differently? Something to think about.
I can't see many similarities between Rollins and Biafra; they've each got their own niche. Cool that you got to see Jello. I laugh when I listen to him because his voice sounds EXACTLY like my friend Jack's. It would be a little weird for me to see him in person because of that.
I ask Richard that question all the time. It's so easy to critique our leaders, but so hard to understand that they are under constrainsts and pressures we couldn't possibly comprehend unless we were in their shoes. It looks easy from the outside.
