Kevin Barrett

The emcee of the event was Kevin Barrett, a Scholar for 9/11 Truth who teaches several languages, Islamic studies, and folklore at the university level, most recently at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where his inclusion of 9/11 conspiracy theories in a course on Islam created quite a controversy). As a 9/11 truth activist he appeared on 360 with Anderson Cooper, Hannity and Colmes, and The O'Reilly Factor in 2006. He filed an FCC complaint about O'Reilly in response to one of his comments (see his Wikipedia entry).
Barrett's wife is Muslim, and he converted to Islam in the early '90s. He is the author of Truth Jihad: My Epic Struggle Against the 9/11 Big Lie, and he established the Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance for 9/11 Truth. With Jim Fetzer he co-hosts The Dynamic Duo, a conspiracy-themed radio show on the Genesis Communications Network (Fetzer is a retired University of Minnesota-Duluth professor who believes the Zapruder film was fabricated from beginning to end).

Barrett's introductory lecture was a rundown of his best evidence that 9/11 was perpetrated by U.S. government insiders. (You can read that evidence on my Day One post.)

On Day Two Barrett started the day's events by reiterating a belief shared by most Truthers: Muslims, true Muslims, had nothing to do with the events of 9/11. The 19 men we know as the 9/11 hijackers were patsies supplied with fake IDs, or perhaps co-cospirators who were dropped off safely at some ultra-secret airstrip before the planes were destroyed (these theories are given some weight by BBC reports that several men with the same names as the hijackers are alive and well in Saudi Arabia).
Muslims, Barrett says, are the new Jews; the new scapegoats for anything that goes wrong in the world. As pop-culture evidence of this, he points to Michael Eisner's first Disney production: Aladdin. The Arab villain, Jafar, is dead ringer for the "Jewish" wolf in the early Disney toon The Three Little Pigs. The global elite has just swapped one religious group for another.
Are there more Muslim terrorists than there are secular, Buddhist, or Hindi terrorists? No, Barrett says. Terrorists like the Hindi Tamil Tigers have been more active than Islamic militants (remember, he doesn't count the London and Madrid train bombings, the first WTC bombing, or any of the embassy bombings as Muslim acts). True Islam actually prohibits suicide for any reason, so Islamists who blow themselves up are doing so for purely political, never religious, reasons (I totally agree with this statement, BTW). As an example, he points out that the suitcase belonging to Mohamed Atta contained writings that were just poor imitations of Islam. He recommended Daniel Hopsicker's book Welcome to Terrorland for more information in this vein.

Yeah, and true Christians believe in "Thou Shall Not Kill." whatever, dude.

Aladdin was a cool story. People who see racism into it need to get their heads examined. Wasn't Aladdin the hero? What was he? Norwegian? No. He was Arabic.

And as much as I like my Muslim friends (and that hot chick in the Persian club at school, man, if I weren't married, I'd...), the scariest terrorists are generally Islamic. Political correctness is stupid.

Aladdin wasn't Norwegian!? Dammit. I'm boycotting Disney movies from now on.

Barrett himself has been accused of being anti-Semitic, but frankly I don't see that either. He's just a doofus.
