Wickeder

Running a fever now. I hope that's a good sign; Richard had a temp right before he started to feel better.

I finished Wicked, which was superb, and am now reading the sequel, Son of a Witch. They definitely give a revisionist history of Oz; Dorothy is a shallow do-gooder who looks out for #1 and breaks her promises, Glinda is a tyrant who can't stand the sight of poor people on the streets of the Emerald City (*cough* Guliani *cough*), and the Wicked Witches weren't really all that bad. They just had some issues.

They're "Wicked" and "Son of a Witch" by Gregory Maguire. He also wrote one about Cinderella's stepsisters. "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister", I think it's called. I haven't read that one yet, but Wicked and the sequel are both very good. Weird, but good.

The witches were victims of poor parenting.

I absolutely loved Wicked! The sequel is in my pile.

Courtney, then why wasn't Son of a Witch on the list in your post?
I would have picked that one for you. ;)

I read both and really enjoyed them. Have also read "confessions of an ugly stepmother" and another one whose title escapes me. They weren't as good as Wicked and the sequel but I enjoy the author.
