World's Shortest Movie Reviews

Lost in Translation: Finally watched this yesterday, and it made me sad. Fine actors and cinematography wasted on the thinnest script imaginable. Might have been decent as a short film, but there just isn't enough material here for a feature.

The Last Winter: Disappointing Polar Gothic that's remarkably similar to another disappointing film, The Happening. Skip this one and watch Ravenous or the X-Files episode "Ice" instead.

Longford: Excellent performance by Jim Broadbent as Lord Longford, who agitated for the release of Moors Murderer Myra Hindley only to be betrayed by her in the end. Devastating. You actually feel sorry for the poor dumb bastard.

Vera Drake: Imelda Staunton's Vera isn't the spunky and in-your-face woman I expected. She's quite timid in the face of authority. A decent, but certainly not remarkable, movie. I recommend the documentary Leona's Sister Gerri instead.

The Last Wave: Appallingly racist film that tries to portray Australian aboriginals as scary, homicidal freaks. Shame on you, Mr. Weir.

There Will Be Blood: Even though it's one of the darkest character studies I've ever seen, this is freaking awesome. I could watch it over and over and over.

I didn't get Lost in Translation at all. Everyone was going ga-ga over it and I just couldn't find much there to rave about.

I thought Vera Drake was EXCELLENT!

I loved There Will Be Blood!

I liked Vera Drake, but I didn't love it. I had too many expectations, I think.

You LIKED There Will Be Blood??!! UGH!! I'd swear that they mixed up the babies in the nursery, except the rest of the babies were boys.
