Well, we took the plunge and put a down payment on a 10th-floor loft, excellent location (close to an historic hotel and one block from the library). 10-foot ceilings, two enormous windows, granite countertop, all appliances, track lighting (Tres yuppie. It's unfortunate that I saw American Psycho last night.). We looked the place over about a month ago, and just kept thinking about it and wincing at the costs of living in the country, where - let's face it - there's lots of fresh air and grass, but also a lot of religious zealots and not many places to go. I realized that there are actually fewer places to hike out in the country than there are in the city, because most of the land out there is farmland (a portion of it protected, no doubt, by zealots with guard dogs and/or semiautomatic weaponry). So, we'll stay the way we are for now: Urban outdoorsy people (in other words, wishy-washy).
The deal isn't closed yet - we've got 10 days to chew things over - but we're already pre-approved for a mortgage and all that jazz, so it looks like we'll be resettling by the end of the summer. !!!!! :)
