Theatre season is up and running, so there hasn't been much blogging time lately. I can't seem to find the program template I saved before we wiped our hard drive - looks like I'll be starting from scratch. @#$%&*.
We had our first dinner guests in the new place last Sunday, our friend/former landlady Marlene and her daughter Ingrid, who's a professional stage manager. They're both knowledgeable in matters of real estate so their opinion was valuable to us; they seemed to think we made a decent investment. Downtown is very up-and-coming right now, it looks like there'll be a lot of development in the next few years. Some of the older, skeezier buildings are being sold and renovated, or just torn down. This is actually a North American trend right now: People are downsizing, learning to live in smaller but convenient downtown spaces. There's a huge market for furniture that's compact and serves multiple purposes. I have an idea for a toilet refrigerator...
Anyway, we had a nice rainy-Sunday dinner of soup and Marlene's delicious homemade multigrain bread and had some great discussions, as usual. Marlene is a wonderful lady: Humble, intelligent, kind to a fault, and always busy (right now she's putting together the costumes for The Rez Sisters). Richard was good friends with her late husband, Wolf, for many years (they worked together). Sunday would have been his 64th birthday, so there were a lot of memories to share.
Just as Marlene and Ingrid were leaving, I was hit with a horrible realization: When I threw my old jeans away earlier in the day, I left my keys in the pocket. I don't know how I knew this for sure, I just did. So, a relaxing evening was followed up with a night of dumpster diving. Fortunately I found my keys within about five minutes.
And now I have to leave for the theatre's annual general meeting. The new board of directors will be introduced and I want to know who I'm working for this year! (for some reason, programs fall under Public Relations at Walterdale) I hear it's going to be two community college students. Hmmm. Things could get a little weird this season...
