I had a thing for Spalding Grey when I was younger; not sure why I liked his stuff, probably the monologist in me. Two years ago now he disappeared and was found 2 months later in the east river; he had commited suicide, as had his mother. He suffered from debilitating depression and had tried to kill himself on many occasions. Sad, really. Most of his material dealt with themes of suicide and helplessness in one form or another. I read monster in a box and swimming to Cambodia- I might revisit them again. Thanks for the mini-list!
I actually dug him, too. Then one day I was watching an interview with him and got this creepy, skin-crawly feeling that he was a really nasty person. I've never been able to prove it. Just a feeling! I could be dead wrong! But in my own defense, I must add that I always had a feeling about Martha Stewart too.
OK, that answered my question about Spaulding Grey.
I'm with you on Martha- I wouldn't trust her as far as i could throw her...and I could heft her at least three feet.On a good day, with a warm up....:)
The moment of truth with Martha came for me when she was giving a recipe for lime cookies and, glaring at the camera, said something like, "And don't you DARE use lime juice or lime zest that you grated the night before!!"
Cookie Nazi.
