Taiwan: The Flight

We had a good flight from Edmonton to Vancouver. Flying above the mountains at sunset is awesome (awesome awesome, not awesome like a hotdog).
The flight to Taipei was smooth for the first many hours, decently comfy for econo class. Forgot to order a veg meal, so Richard sweetly shared his fruit and veggies with me to fill out my meal. I watched most of Enchanted, which surprisingly wasn't bad, then slept somewhat soundly for the rest of the night.
I woke two hours before landing, feeling refreshed. But it was bumpy flying, and for the first time I was hit out of nowhere with air sickness. A few other passengers obviously felt the same way. I couldn't touch breakfast: It was some kind of taro porridge, served with odd little brown-and-green veggies that I would've sworn were drying boogers, and a little packet of "tuna floss".
We cleared customs with little trouble; the only thing you can't bring into Taiwan (aside from the usual weapons, seeds, livestock, etc.) is Communist propaganda. Richard wanted to wear his Che hat just for the fun of having it confiscated, but thankfully left it at home.

I'm standing beside the jade Haida boat sculpture at Vancouver Airport. I think this is the Dogfish Woman.

Glad you're back safe & sound! Long haul flights are notoriously uncomfortable...Sounds like you did well, though! I love that jade sculpture in the Van airport; I think it's a of of another one in the Museum of Civilization, though. Looking forward to hearing all about your adventure!

I totally would have worn the Che hat, just to see what happens!

There is another identical boat (smaller and made of something white) in the Museum of Civilization; the model of the jade one, maybe? I remember looking at it and thinking it was beautiful, but I didn't examine it closely enough to see the Dogfish Woman peeping out.

I freakin' hate the Che hat. Why not just wear a Jeffrey Dahmer T-shirt? ;P

I dug Taiwan totally aside from some of the pollution and food smells, but it's great to be back in Canada. No place like home. And now that I've seen Kaohsiung traffic, I may never complain about Edmonton drivers ever, ever again! ;D

Dad's got a saying for the Dahmer shirt: "Love thy neighbor....they're tasty!"
