My mother's idol, Neil Diamond, admitted he wrote "Sweet Caroline" about Caroline Kennedy, who was all of 10 at the time. Somewhat creepy. (This also means that when I was about 10, I had to listen to four encores of a song about a Kennedy. Blggh.)
Sting was recently voted one of the worst lyricists in history, even though whoever writes Rhianna's songs can get away with "The world has took its part". I could get on board if Sting was nominated the most overrated songwriter, but worst? C'mon. There's anything wrong with trying to rhyme to "cough" and "Nabokov". But what I do find creepy is that all those Police songs that sound romantic and poppy are actually just, well, kinda sick. I think "Every Breath You Take" could be included on K-Tel's Songs to Stalk By collection, and "Don't Stand So Close to Me" becomes icky when you discover (as I recently did) that Sting used to be a schoolteacher. Blggh.

You want a gross story? About 12-13 years ago, a guy I worked with was reading Guitar magazine or some music magazine (he is in a band) and showed us an interview with Rod Stewart. I will never forget this. He told the interviewer that he gets hes larynx checked via orthoscope (the little camera whatever you call it) because the video "looks like a pussy"... ew.
I dont mind Neil Diamond really. LOL.. Actually I like the movie the Jazz Singer.
I have to admit, The Jazz Singer isn't all that bad.
I already find Rod Stewart a little creepy, and that's just...blggh.
Shut up SME, or I'll tell everybody that you went to a Neil Diamond concert! ;)
BTW, I know it's still pervy, but Caroline was 12 in 1969.
I've been to TWO Neil Diamond concerts! I don't find that lame at all. I fully admit to dancing around the dining room table when I was 4 to Forever in Blue Jeans....
I LOVE YOU Laura!
Haha SME; Laura doesn't think Neil is lame!!
Mom, she didn't think he was lame at age 4!! Doesn't count!! Heh heh heh.
OK, so Caroline was 12. Still somewhat creepy. And Sting and Rod Stewart are totally creepy.
Don't push your luck!
Keep in mind that I quit reading Dave Barry after he dissed my Neil! ;)
Besides, I'm already traumatized from ND being classified as "Easy Listening" now.
Oh, c'mon! Dave Barry's one thing, but you can't boycott your own daughter! ;P
Jazz and some of the ambient/New Agey and Celtic stuff I like is often classed under Easy Listening, too, so don't feel too bad. Anything that doesn't fall neatly into Rap/Hip Hop/Soul, Metal, or Rock ends up there.
OK, that explanation mollified me.
I won't delete you from my bookmarks...YET. ;)
Aw, thanks. ;P
